Stillhouse Hollow Lake is in Bell County, near the Fort Hood Army Base in Texas - 2 miles South of U.S. 190 on FM 1670 in Belton, Texas. The Lake itself is located 16 miles upstream of the confluence of the Lampasas and Leon Rivers that flow into the Little River.
The extremely clear and deep reservoir was completed in July 1968, has a maximum depth of 107 feet and a surface area of 6,429 acres. The main lake area is dominated by steep rocky shoreline with limited amounts of standing timber.
Stillhouse Hollow Lake offers a wide variety of recreation including camping, water recreation, nature trails, hike/bike/equestrian trails, picnic facilities, pavilions for large groups, hunting, fishing, and an environmental learning center.
Fishing - Largemouth bass is the most abundant sportfish in the reservoir, although there is also a good population of smallmouth bass. Fair to good populations of channel catfish are also available. Largemouth bass fishing is best during spring and fall when water temperatures range from the mid-50s to the mid-70s.
Chalk Ridge Falls Environmental Learning Center - This area is located below the Stillhouse Hollow Lake Dam. This is a free area that is open from 8:00 am - Sunset. Dogs, glass containers, alcoholic beverages, bicycles or firearms are not allowed in the park. There is approximately 5 miles of hiking trail in this area.
Dana Peak Trail - This trail is located on Dana Peak Road before the main entrance to the park. This trail is designed for hiking, biking or equestrian use with a corral and water trough for the horses. This is a free area that is open from daylight till dark year round.
Bird Watching - Bird watching is a favorite pastime of many visitors to Stillhouse Hollow Lake. All kinds of songbirds, hawks, and even an occasional bald eagle visit the area. Great blue herons, ducks and geese in the winter, and various other shorebirds frequent the area and give the bird watching public something to see year-round.
